Location
The exchange institution, Uppsala University is located in the fourth
largest town in Sweden. With an approximate population of 160,000,
Uppsala is situated 70 km (45 miles) north of Stockholm in a region
filled with the charms of the countryside as well as the opportunities
afforded in big cities. Uppsala is a town with a living history
in which Old Uppsala (Gamla Uppsala) was the focal point of the
Kingdom of the Swedes. Uppland, the province in which Uppsala is
located, is surrounded by fields, forests and lakes, providing many
opportunities for relaxing bike rides and strolls. Among Uppland's
attractions is Roslagen, where you can experience idyllic small
towns, go on boat trips along a unique coastline and swim in the
sea. Also in Uppland is the Walloon Ironworks in which you will
experience a well-preserved cultural environment that many architects
try to imitate or recreate. Lake M”laren is a district rich in old
traditions with numerous rock carvings from the Bronze Age and opportunities
for camping, hiking, and swimming. Studying at Uppsala University.,
therefore, provides an opportunity to live in a location with both
the benefits of the city life as well as the attractions of the
region's countryside, coastline, and lake district. Uppsala's two
universities, Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural
Sciences, are major sources of employment in the city. The business
sector has also grown in recent years and is characterized by an
advanced level of technology.
